weekend away con't

We left my sister’s place mid afternoon and made our way over to the Upper West Side where Susie lives. Toni and Joe were napping before heading out to see Eddie Palmieri at Carnegie Hall while Susie, Judd, and the kids were at the movies. I decided to walk Saki and Missy in Central Park while my Honey worked out at NYSC.

I entered the park at the reservoir and worked my way down. I was excited for Saki to see her first horse but there weren’t any on the bridle path ... lots of horse shit, but no horses. I was ready to turn back after 30 minutes but was drawn toward a thumping beat in the distance. I followed it to the skate ring just north of the volleyball courts. I found a spot in the shade and kicked back while watching the skaters, bladers, and heads dance their asses off.
It was a lot of fun to watch and it brought back memories of hanging at Bethesda Fountain with tons of heads scoring weed from boys who looked like me. This was stoner central in the late 70s and early 80s.

I spotted a hottie at a corner on the walk back home. He kept staring at me, so as I got closer, I inflated my chest, flashed him a smile and said hi before realizing that it was Andres from Miami. Andres and I “spent time” together when I was there for the month of October ... a lot of time. He introduced me to his new boyfriend who was standing next to him the whole time (I didn’t see him). It was kind of awkward so I wished them Happy Pride and kept moving.

I worked out while my Honey watched the dogs and then joined him and SuJu for for sushi just around the corner. The food was good, the sake was effective, but the Sapporos were warm. So, like Valerie Bertanelli in “One Day at a Time,” I asked for a tall glass of ice. The waitress said she would bring a champagne bucket instead, but I insisted that she bring both. I likes my beer real cold. Davis called during dinner and bowed out of the bacchanal planned for later since he re-injured his ankle. Awe!

We went downtown just after 1 AM and ended up at Boys Party on First and Ave A. Ten bucks to get in but I was okay with it since I was so full of pride. Once inside, pride was replaced with anger because their air conditioning was not working. Not good, the place was crammed with twinks on both levels. We left after half an hour.

Walked up to the Cock, paid our ten bucks and wiggled our way in. It wasn’t too crowded (ebb and flow), the music was so-so (which is strange because I usually love the music there), the go-go boys were not so hot (where was the dick?), but as usual, the crowd was definitely interesting (and dirty looking ... mmmm). I bumped into “very sexy and very smart” Tim who I “spent time” with in November. We chatted for a few minutes before I introduced him to my Honey, he darted away very quickly.

We went to another club ... let’s keep this PG and leave out all the details...

We woke up on Sunday at 1 PM, a few hours after going to sleep, and decided to skip the parade for the first time in fifteen years. I don’t think we missed much ... dykes on bikes, drag queens, PFLAG, drag queens, bar floats, drag queens, assorted politicians, drag queens, theater groups, and drag queens (but honestly, I did miss not seeing the boys on the Altoids and SBNY floats). We chilled and watched “Be Cool” with ToJo and I laughed my ass off when The Rock sang “You’re not Woman Enough to Steal My Man” ... priceless.

We went to the Eagle where we bumped into David, who we both “spent time” with in DC a few years ago. He looked damned good. Actually he was the best looking guy there. I guess all the hot daddies were dancing on the pier. What’s with serving warm beers? We kept having to go to the second floor to get colder beers.

Left around 8 PM and met ToJo and SuJu at a Turkish restaurant. I hate to grumble, but I was under whelmed. I asked the waitress to explain the menu since it was my first time eating Turkish food.

“Explain the menu?”
“Yes, give me a tour of the items on the menu.”
“Just read the descriptions.”
“I’ll have the salmon.”

It sucked along with three of the other dishes. I tried to be open minded. No, really, I did. I’m going to look for a restaurant here in DC and compare the service and food.

Regretfully, we left for DC at 11:30 instead of staying for, what I consider is, the “funnest” night in gay NYCity. I had to be back for the rescheduled interview on Monday. We pulled over at a rest stop at 3 AM and ran into my friends Greg and Raquel who spent the weekend in Jersey (I haven’t "spent time" with them, although Greg is pretty fucking hot).

All in all, a fun weekend with family, friends, and acquaintances (and new acquaintances). And many chance encounters with people I enjoy, but I didn’t get to meet up with Davis or Erik with a K. I hope to catch up with them later this summer.

It certainly sounds like you had a busy busy schedule. I was either sleeping or dancing or baking. Sorry we missed ya. I think we wound up at the Eagle about 5 hours after you. We unexpectedly got into the pier dance. But there will be other times. Davis is thinking we need to hit Junior Vasquez's party on August 6. It's a date for us. Care to join?
