barbeque on the brain

On Friday, we discussed hauling the grill out from underneath the porch but never got around to it since we ended up eating most of our meals in and out of the city.

Susan’s friend Julia came down from NYCity and we joined them for lunch at Matchbox over by the MCI Center. My non-cheese eating ass watched them eat the most delicious looking brick oven pizza I’ve ever seen. I had the more digestible friendly calamari salad and grilled mini burgers. Ironically, they were out of matchboxes.

Sunday we drove to That’s Amore all the way up in Rockville (I wish there was a closer location). I don’t even have to look at the menu since I knew what I was having from the moment I opened the gift card from Debbie in December. Calamari Grigliagrilled to perfection, Giambotto - Spicy grilled sausage and grilled chicken sautéed with peppers, onion, mushroom, garlic and fried sliced potatoes, and Penne Primavera - pasta and spring vegetables in a light cream sauce with a touch of tomato (any chance you can grill the vegetables). Bread is the enemy yet we went through two baskets.

This morning, a coupon fell out of the bag of dog food as I poured the contents into a plastic container. A sauce bottle and a big juicy steak were pictured on the coupon’s front flap. It seems that Iams is branching out into the sauce market. I made a mental note to bring the coupon to the market (I can be thrifty), since I knew we needed sauce once we got around to eventually firing up the grill.

“Hmmm ... I wonder how much the coupon is for ... Hmmm ... why is there a picture of a woman about to pour sauce in a dog bowl ... this couldn’t be for dogs, could it ... doh ... there it is ... I missed the “Spoil Your Dog Healthy” banner?”

I chuckled as I threw the coupon away. That silly company thinks I’m going to go out and spend money on a bottle of Roasted Beef Flavor Savory Sauce for my dog. How ridiculous! If A1 Zesty Steak Sauce is good enough for me, then it’s good enough for my dog.
