final thoughts ... for now

I have been glued to the television all weekend long following JP2's final media tour. As I posted earlier, I am a sucker for ritual, and this has to be the mother of all rituals. It must be challenging to stage the world's largest funeral dictated by ancient Canon Law and have to consider and incorporate such modern wonders as Fox News, digital cameras and cell phones, and audio/video systems.

I don't mean this to be disrespectful, but I wished someone would straighten his feet. Whenever his body is displayed on television or in pictures, I am totally focused on his feet. Maybe it's my OCD kicking in, but I have an overwhelming urge to run past the clowns guarding his body and pivot his right foot by approximately 45 degrees and his left by 10 degrees. They used to be perfectly aligned on Sunday; what happened? My honey thinks no one has repositioned them because rigor mortis has set in, but I have seen enough episodes of Six Feet Under to know that Rico, with a good tug and some duct tape, would have them pointing toward the heavens.

And is it just me, but don't these guys have other uniforms they could wear. I think they look fabulous in their Cirque de Soleil inspired wear, but this is hardly proper funeral attire. Maybe Armani can design something more appropriate, comfortable, and fashionable (red, yellow, and blue are not the new black).

Did anyone catch Lenny Gonzales, a hot, 40, former submarine engineer, third year seminary student, on 60 Minutes this past Sunday? The priest in my parish didn't look like Lenny. I might still be a "practicing" Catholic if they did. Confession would have been more interesting (and exciting).
