at the multiplex

I watched the Oscars without seeing many of the top nominated films, which was unusual for me as I get to the multiplex fairly regularly. My interest waned after the red carpet runway, Rock's tepid monologue, and not spotting Bobby Cannavale, Sidney Lumet's son-in-law, in the audience. Seeing the movies didn't seem to matter because I still did well picking the winners ...er ... Oscar recipients. Three of my favorites won awards; The Incredibles, Motorcycle Diaries and Eternal Sunshine. I loved Super Size Me and was disappointed it didn't win in its category.

Some of my favorites from 2004 weren't even nominated; The Forgotten, Life Aquatic, In Good Company, Napoleon Dynamite, and Dodgeball (go figure). Like Southpark's Stan and Kenny I should go the producers of these films and request refunds for the ticket cost: Ocean's Twelve, Troy, Sky Captain, and I (walked out this movie forty minutes into it, so I defintely did not) Heart Huckabees.

I did manage to get out this week and see some of the nominated movies before they disappeared from the theater.

worth the hype ...
she was great in this ...
loved it, hard to watch ...

I will see Sideways in the next few days as soon as I'm done reading Rex Pickett's novel. If it weren't for the movie, I would have stopped reading this book at the fifty page mark. It reads like a really long short story. I'll see all the other nominated movies I'm interested in (Closer, Lemony, Neverland, Kinsey) on DVD or HBO.
