reading

I had the pleasure of hearing Simon Winchester speak two years while he was promoting The Meaning of Everything. I tried reading it but quickly lost interest since I learned all I wanted to learn about the Oxford English Dictionary from The Professor and the Madman. Winchester is a great speaker and I highly recommend you experience him in person.

The two weeks after the tsunami disaster, Winchester was all over the cable news shows discussing the similarities between the Krakatoa explosion and the current disaster. As always, he did a great job bringing the history to life so I went to the basement and found a copy to read. Bonus, it was even autographed by Winchester.
